The Story of the Foxes
Many, many generations ago, there were six fox clans that lived together in a fragile truce that could be broken like a single thread. The clans were the Aka Clan, Ao Clan, Kiiro Clan, Chairo Clan, Shiro Clan and the Kuro Clan. Each lived in their own separate place, but the fires of rivalry and suspicion were strong. A war broke out between the Kuro Clan and the Aka Clan, but everyone was affected.
In desperation and a want for peace, the Shiro Clan fled the Besvar Forest in the hopes of finding a peaceful place away from the warring clans. They traveled many miles and endured a multitude of tragedies and losses, but they pressed on with unfailing loyalty to their leader, Lady Ansla. After what seemed like a year's worth of running, the tired clan came upon a large clearing.
In the center of the clearing was a enormous elm tree whose branches sprawled outwards in an ever-growing umbrella of comforting shade. The clan felt strengthened by this tree and comforted by its presence. After enduring so much hardship, they had found their home.
One day, a young woman approached the foxes as they worked to maintain their den. They were afraid of her, but soon a trust began to build between them. Lady Ansla took a particular liking to the girl and that seemed to calm all the foxes' nerves. The girl introduced herself as Shima and the daughter of the people that owned the land with the large elm and even the land on which the foxes had built their den.
She told them not to worry because her parents liked to have guests and said that they were welcome to stay for as long as they wanted.
The Shiro Clan lived happily and peacefully, soon giving up their clan name that only served to separate them from the other clans. Soon however, they began to notice that there were too many young kits to take care of. They had the food and the space, but there weren't enough babysitters to watch them all.
Shima, while visiting one day, proposed that they could adopt out some of their young to loving human owners. That way, they'd still get the love and attention that they needed, but it wouldn't strain the adult babysitters anymore.
Lady Ansla and a council of elder foxes discussed the matter vigorously and eventually came to an agreement. They would adopt out some of their young on a trial basis and see how things went from there.
It's been many years since that day.
